OAC: How many of their athletes run sub-13? Can Joe Klecker break the American Indoor 5k record?

If you're a running aficionado like myself, you've seen the clip posted by Citius Mag of the OAC casually running a sub-4 minute mile (although I technically think it's a 1600) at altitude. From my understanding, only the first act of what I imagine to be yet another monster workout by the group. The ease and control with which these athletes were able to run this effort tells me that they are ready to pop a BIG performance. This got my mind spinning as to what this means for the indoor 5k they're running this Friday at Boston University.

The first thing to consider is, what do we know about Friday's race? We know the race is being paced for 13:05. We also know the race has the fire power up front to maintain or, dare I say, cutdown the pace once the pacer drops out. The question here is not if, but how many of the athletes from the OAC group break 13 minutes for 5k? Given that this group ran a controlled sub-4 cutting down, I think it's fair to say that they could have maintained that pace for another quarter had it been run evenly. Now if you can run 60 seconds quarters for 2k at Boulder's elevation it's safe to say you could maintain that pace for a 3k at sea level, which would put them at or around 7:30. The 5k equivalent of a 7:30 3k is roughly 12:55.

Now let's take a look at Joe Klecker in particular. We know considering everyone in that group he's what one would refer to as a "strength runner" or "aerobic monster". Meaning that if there is anyone in that group that has the ability to run faster than their converted time from a shorter race it's him, as he gets stronger as the race gets longer. The current American Indoor 5k record is 12:53.73. Now I'm not saying that Klecker running the American Indoor 5k record is a given, but he is sure as shit going to give it a scare.

Hold on to your hats folks! It's going to be a barn burner!
